This table is getting a dark makeover. It started as a half-wood, half-painted combination.

The first thing to do when repainting furniture is to prep the surface. The hemp oil top is removed with mineral spirits. The painted base is scuff-sanded.
2
I recommend the sophisticated, true black paint, Anchor. It's a mineral paint with built-in top coat.
3
It's best to paint details with a small artist's brush. This is less likely to lead to excess paint around the ornate areas.
4
I chose a decoupage paper to add some contrast to the black paint. This is called Late Aurora.
5
Attach the paper by first applying a coat of sealer. With a parchment paper barrier, use a warm iron to secure the paper.
6
Cut paper down to size by using sandpaper and gently sanding at an angle.

The best topcoat to seal black paint is hemp oil. It’s a streak-free sealer and very easily applied. This is in addition to the built-in top coat within the mineral paint.
